A Note from Our Executive Director

This past March, Mission Neighborhood Health Center and other community health centers around the nation joined together to stop a 70% reduction of federal funding for health centers in the United States. A few of our board members and I, traveled to Washington D.C to talk with our congressional representatives about how community health centers positively impact the wellbeing of low-income communities. Francisco Garcia, MNHC board member and patient, proudly spoke to congressional representatives about his experiences as a Latino immigrant in the Unites States. Thanks to our combined efforts health centers around the nation will continue to receive federal funding for the next two years.

In the front lines, our staff at MNHC continues to provide the community we serve with access to quality care. In this newsletter, we discuss Francisco Garcia’s story and participation in Washington D.C., the progress of MNHC’s outreach team in enrolling our community into public and private health insurance through Covered California and we introduce Nelly Pino, our new Behavioral Specialist who brings her cultural and behavioral expertise to provide our Women’s Clinic patients with behavioral health support.

We also include a MNHC Action Corner to give our readers a glimpse of the many events and activities our organization is involved in. This edition of our Action Corner includes our Latino en Extasis crowd funding campaign  efforts to gather enough funds to purchase a community van that will allow our youth to further their community reach and provide our youth with outdoor education trips that take them away from the busy Mission District, bringing focus to their overall well-being.
