Sheltering against The Cold: MNRC Joins City’s Efforts to Support the Homeless

This past winter San Francisco experienced an uncharacteristic cold snap prompting the city’s San Francisco Homeless Services to enlist the support of Mission Neighborhood Resource Center (MNRC) to shelter homeless individuals.  Although MNRC does not have beds and does not serve as an overnight shelter, the staff rallied quickly to assist those in need.

Under the supervision of Ricardo Newball, manager of MNRC, staff, who already give their all, hosted individuals offering them a warm welcome, dinner, mats for sleeping and breakfast for seventy-two hours straight.   Additionally, a case manager offered consultations on how to access local resources to improve participant’s quality of life.

“We were happy to participate in this call to action,” said Ruth Nunez, director of programs at MNRC.  “We are committed to this population and our staff did an outstanding job of jumping in at the last minute.”
