MNHC Featured in Independent News Site, Mission Local

It is 9:56 a.m. but these photos were taken much earlier. It is now 60˚ and expected to rise to not at all, but rain will fall. Details for the next ten days here.

Today’s block: South Van Ness to Shotwell, 16th to 17th Streets.

Christmas Eve dawns, the streets quietly rise to greet the morning lurkers. Some locals can be found receiving affordable health services at Mission Neighborhood Health Center (founded in 1967), a building that once used to hold a factory for jukebox music machines. Others are eating at the local Poc-Chuc Mayan restaurant that previously housed Cuban cuisine.

From a very active gas station in the corner to an abandoned chocolate factory in the opposite corner, you can feel the streets getting ready as a taco truck and tamale stand park in front of the health center.

The health center’s two magnificent murals by local artists stand in place as everything moves in the ever changing heart of the Mission District.
