Capital Campaign: For Great Health Care Outcomes and Equity

Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is kicking off a major $3.5 million capital campaign to build a new clinic!

Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is kicking off a major $3.5 million capital campaign to build a new clinic! MNHC received $750,000 from Community Vision as part of the Mayor’s Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative (NSI) program. A great start to the capital campaign.

The capital campaign will help MNHC launch its new Excelsior Clinic which will significantly increase access to the Excelsior community by doubling MNHC’s patient capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 patients a year. The clinic will feature an expansion in medical services, behavioral health, dental preventative services and provide a wellness conference room for patient and community education. The vision for the new Excelsior Clinic includes delivery of the highest quality services with the strategy and vision that has made MNHC a trusted and respected member of the community.

“For over fifty years, MNHC has provided essential health care services to San Francisco’s Mission and Excelsior Districts, and beyond. The Clinic has long been part of the fabric of the community,” said Brenda Storey, Executive Director. “It has been a reliable community provider, and will continue to offer health care to new generations.”

In collaboration with Bridge Housing, the Excelsior Clinic will reside in a building that will also feature new affordable housing. This clinic setting will serve primarily the low income and working class community in this area for decades to come.

Marco Montenegro, Executive Director of Excelsior Works!, welcomes MNHC’s expanded presence at Excelsior. “As a child my parents accessed the services of Mission Neighborhood Health Center for me and my siblings. They counted on the accessibility of the Health Center’s services, compassionate care, and professionalism that the staff is known for,” said Mr. Montenegro. “It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to their expanding of the clinic’s footprint in the Excelsior, while renewing their commitment to address the primary care and mental health needs of the immigrant community. Once completed, the larger clinic will be a great gift to the residents of the Excelsior and emblematic of the values of our city.”

The capital campaign aims to raise $3.5 million to cover for all essential tenant improvements to turn the space into the new and welcoming Excelsior Clinic. The total cost to own the space is $9.5 million, with $6 million to be financed.

We are inviting everyone to join in our vision and donate towards this initiative, including large healthcare providers, tech companies, to individual donors. Help us create a more equitable San Francisco by supporting this expansion of health care and dental access.
