A Note from the Executive Director
We are pleased to report that the Affordable Care Act has provided some exciting opportunities for our patients and community. In the past six months , we assisted 829 of our patients to enroll in Medi-Cal and another 412 enrolled in Covered California. Additionally, our Outreach and Enrollment team assisted 10,120 community members with information and enrollment. For the first time in many of our patient’s lives they will have the security of knowing that they are insured should there be a medical emergency or need for specialty care. At the same time, however, due to their immigration status, many of our patients will continue to be uninsured. This fact renews our commitment to providing access to care for all because we believe that 100% of all children, youth, adults and seniors–all of our families – should be able to work hard and live life with the same sense of security that our newly insured now enjoy. We will continue our mission, a part of our long-term legacy, to fight for health care access for all.
And speaking of legacy, I am proud to include in this issue of the newsletter the stories of three notable employees Dolores Rodriguez, Frances Allen and Sharon Lam who have served our community through multiple generations. These women exemplify our passion for service and our commitment to continuing to be the medical home of choice for many more generations ahead. I am also pleased to introduce the history of the beginnings of our Youth Program, Latinos en Extasis, most recently the current youth group attended the Monumental Conference in Washington, DC- a conference focused on youth leadership and community service. You’ll also find some interesting facts about our outcomes and information about a new grant. It’s truly an exciting time here at Mission Neighborhood Health Center, and as always, we appreciate your support.
