MNHC Awarded $1 million Grant to Improve Infrastructure

It’s a little known fact that Mission Neighborhood Health Center’s Shotwell site was a former jukebox factory in the 1960’s. There have been a number of remodels to portions of the building since its renovation to create a health center yet there is still work to be done. MNHC was recently awarded a $1milllion grant from the U.S. Department Of Health And Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Primary Health Care through the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2015 Health Infrastructure Investment Program.

The incentive to apply for this funding was MNHC’s ongoing commitment to its patients and to better utilize current space to increase service capacity and improve the health center’s ability to meet the emerging needs of the community.

The funding will be used to alter and renovate a section of the Shotwell site to increase exam room capacity in Adult Medicine, create office space that integrates behavioral health, chronic disease management and nutrition services within the primary care services, upgrade the flooring, signage and overall interior of the clinic, and add disabled access upgrades to provide increased and improved care to MNHC patients. In addition, we seek to improve teamwork and communication within the Shotwell clinic care teams by improving team station work areas.

“We are thrilled to receive this funding to improve access to our busy Shotwell Clinic,” said Brenda Storey, Executive Director of MNHC. “We will we be able to make much-needed physical improvements to increase capacity that will also facilitate better communication.”
