MNHC and the Affordable Care Act
MNHC is leading the way in the Mission District to ensure patients and community members have the opportunity to enroll in new insurance options through the Affordable Care Act (ACA). MNHC has put in place an expanded team of outreach workers and Certified Enrollment Counselors, who are facilitating several community events to provide persons with the information they need to make an informed choice about their health insurance options. MNHC is also hosting several special Enrollment Clinics on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays, to enroll patients and other members of the community in Medi-Cal and Covered California Qualified Health Plans.
“There is no wrong door,” says Cesar Barravino, Outreach and Enrollment Supervisor at MNHC. “We will do everything we can to help everyone who comes to us and ensure they have the information and resources to meet their needs for healthcare. We don’t want people to wait until they are sick to access healthcare. We are educating the community about using their insurance to engage in care before they get sick. This improves the health of the individual, the community and lowers healthcare costs.”
Not everyone will be able to access insurance through the ACA and MNHC continues to advocate for and provide access to care for patients who are not eligible for insurance or have difficulty enrolling due to complex social and medical issues.
